Ciena Corp., announced that it is in advanced discussions to acquire substantially all of the optical networking and carrier Ethernet assets of Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Networks business. Deal terms were not disclosed but UBS Research estimates that Nortel’s optical assets could be worth around $500 million. Acquiring Nortel’s optical business could help Ciena become a bigger supplier to AT&T.
